Alupent (Orciprenaline Sulphate) (sometimes called metaproterenol) is classified as a bronchodilator and is indicated for bronchial asthma and the prevention of bronchospasms in patients suffering from conditions such as emphysema and bronchitis. This medicine functions as a beta adrenergic agonist, and by stimulating certain receptors, it helps to bring about an increase in the levels of c-AMP (a messenger which helps to open up the airways). As a result of the airways widening, breathing problems can be prevented.
Alupent (Orciprenaline Sulphate) comes in 10mg strength tablets for oral administration. In some cases, patients being treated for asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease may be directed by their physician to take 20mg, administered 3 to 4 times per day. However, this could be different for some people, depending on individual factors. Patients must therefore pay close attention to the instructions given by their physician and never exceed the recommended dosage.
Use of the bronchodilator Alupent (Orciprenaline Sulphate) could cause side effects. Tell your physician if this occurs. Possible examples include:
Other serious adverse events that will require you to attend the hospital or see a physician straight away are possible. Examples of this can include a sudden and severe worsening of your condition, shaking which you cannot control, loss of consciousness and other severe reactions that have not been referenced here.
Patients undergoing treatment with Alupent (Orciprenaline Sulphate) may be required to have x rays conducted on the chest or other regular medical tests.
Your physician may tell you to use other medications to help manage or control your condition.
