Bricanyl (Terbutaline) is classified as a bronchodilator and it can help prevent bronchospasms caused by asthma, which it achieves by opening up the airways. It may also be used for emphysema and bronchitis, to prevent the occurrence of reversible bronchospasms. This medication is classified as a beta 2 adrenergic receptor agonist, and its mechanism of action is stimulating the beta 2 receptors in the lungs. As a direct result of this, the airway muscles become more relaxed, which leads to improved breathing and can also help reduce wheezing, tightness in the chest and breathing difficulties.
Bricanyl (Terbutaline) tablets are administered by mouth. Each one contains 2.5mg of the main ingredient. When used for maintenance treatment in patients with asthma, physicians sometimes direct the patient to take 5mg, 3 times per day with an interval of 6 hours in between each dose. In some cases, the physician may decide to reduce the dosage to 2.5mg 3 times per day. Patients will be required to comply with the instructions of their physician at all times.
Treatment with the beta 2 adrenergic receptor agonist Bricanyl (Terbutaline) may cause some patients to suffer from side effects. Consult your physician if this happens. Some examples are given here:
It is worth noting that other side effects may also affect patients. You will be required to get medical help straight away if you suffer from any serious adverse events, such as tremors, a worsening of asthma symptoms, seizures and any other serious reactions which have not been referenced here.
Bricanyl (Terbutaline) needs to be administered on a regular basis in order for it to benefit in the reduction or prevention of asthma attacks. Your physician may prescribe other medicines to be used alongside this one to treat asthma.
Patients should not administer this medicine more frequently than their physician recommends. Should this medicine`s effectiveness become reduced over time, you should consult your physician.
