Levocrine is a chewable tablet containing synthetic crystalline levothyroxine sodium (L-Thyroxine). Levocrine is indicated in thyroid replacement therapy in all conditions of inadequate production of thyroid hormones (hypothyroidism) in dogs.
A starting dosage of 0.1mg (100mcg) per 10lb (4.5kg) of body weight. This should be taken twice a day. Dosage will then be adjusted while the dog`s blood is tested until a suitable maintenance dose is reached (usually about 0.1mg per 10lb (4.5 kg) of body weight once daily).
When taken at the correct dosage, Levocrine should cause no negative side effects. Overdosage may result in signs and symptoms of thyrotoxicosis (polydipsia, polyuria, polyphagia, reduced heat tolerance and hyperactivity or personality change).
Dogs with thyrotoxicosis, acute myocardial infarction or uncorrected adrenal insufficiency should not take levothyroxine sodium. Safety of levothyroxine sodium in pregnant dogs has not been evaluated. Use levothyroxine sodium with caution in dogs with heart disease, hypertension.
