Divaa

Divaa (Divalproex Sodium) can treat bipolar disorder and seizures. It is also effective for the prevention of headaches due to migraine. Physicians believe it works for epilepsy by increasing the amount of GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) in the brain. This neurotransmitter acts in the brain and nervous system to reduce nerve excitability, thereby preventing the abnormal electrical signals and nerve activity that can lead to seizures. GABA can also have a stabilizing effect on the mood and is often used to treat acute episodes of bipolar disorder (including both manic and mixed).

Divaa (Divalproex Sodium) is available as 125mg, 250mg and 500mg strength delayed release tablets, as well as 250mg, 500mg, 750mg and 1000mg extended release tablets. In some cases, adult patients treating mania due to bipolar disorder may be told to take the delayed release tablets, with a daily dosage of 250mg. This may be adjusted and possibly reduced so that the lowest possible maintenance dosage that can achieve therapeutic effects can be determined. Patients treating epilepsy should note that the dosage may differ depending on the types of seizures being treated (complex partial or complex absence, as well as other types).

During the treatment of bipolar disorder or any other medical condition with Divaa (Divalproex Sodium) tablets, be aware of the fact that side effects may occur and report all reactions to your physician. Examples include:

• Stomach upset
• An agitated mood
• A slight spinning sensation
• Hearing a buzzing sound in the ears
• Body weight gain and variations in appetite

Should you notice a weak feeling occurring in the joints, a sudden reduction in the temperature of your body, blisters, abnormal changes to your mood, unusual bleeding or any other severe adverse events that are not referenced here, consult your physician immediately.

Patients with diabetes who take Divaa (Divalproex Sodium) should note that false positives may sometimes be caused by it in some urine tests. Ensure that you inform any physicians treating you of the fact that this medicine is currently being taken.

Although not common, there is a possibility that this medicine could affect the liver or other organs in the body. Blood tests will be required before and during treatment, and tests may also be needed to monitor the function of your liver.
