Zyban (Bupropion Hydrochloride) is used as a smoking cessation aid. However, it does not contain nicotine, and is a different form of treatment than nicotine replacement therapy. The primary ingredient in this medication is believed to work by affecting neurotransmitters in the brain, which can help to lower the craving for cigarettes, and this may make it easier for people to quit smoking. You must visit your physician before commencing treatment with Zyban (Bupropion Hydrochloride). There is a possibility that you will be instructed to take 150mg per day for the initial 3 days of treatment. After this, your physician may increase your dosage to 300mg per day (in 2 doses). It is important to allow at least 8 hours between doses. Your physician will also tell you how long you need to continue treatment for. Generally speaking, physicians do not recommend treatment for a period greater than 7 to 12 weeks, and if no success has been met with, you may be told to stop treatment. If you manage to successfully stop smoking, you may be instructed by your physician to continue treatment for a longer period of time.
