Zipsydon (Ziprasidone) is classified as an antipsychotic, and it works for schizophrenia by acting on the serotonin and dopamine receptors, so as to correct the neurotransmitter activity in the brain. Patients have also been treated with it for anxiety disorders, ADHD, obsessive compulsive disorder, post traumatic stress and aggressive behavior. The agitation, hallucinations and negative impact on the mood that patients affected by schizophrenia suffer from are believed to be related to a disturbance in dopamine. It has been hypothesized that by inhibiting serotonin and norepinephrine uptake, this medicine may help to alleviate schizophrenia symptoms, and its action on other receptors may explain some of the side effects that occur.
Zipsydon (Ziprasidone) comes in capsule form, however there are two strengths available (20mg and 40mg). Your physician will make all decisions regarding the right dosage and you will be required to comply with all instructions given. Adult patients undergoing treatment for schizophrenia are often told to take 20mg, twice per day as a starting dosage. This may be adjusted if the physician deems it necessary. If used for bipolar disorder, Tourette`s syndrome or any other conditions, a different dosage schedule may be needed. Patients must only take the amount of medicine that their physician tells them to take.
Use of the antipsychotic medicine Zipsydon (Ziprasidone) could trigger side effects in some patients. You must tell your physician if this happens. A list consisting of some effects which have been reported by patients treated with this medicine is given here:
Other side effects that have not been listed are also possible. You will need hospitalization or medical attention right away in the event that any serious side effects occur, such as an erection which persists for 4 hours or more, thirst, urinating more than usual, facial or bodily movements which you have no control over, perspiration or any other severe reactions that have not been referenced here.
Zipsydon (Ziprasidone) has been associated with increasing the sensitivity to severe temperatures (either hot or cold). Take all the necessary precautions and ensure that you prevent yourself from getting too cold (during the winter) or excessively hot.
This medicine is not used or approved for use in patients affected by dementia or other similar problems. Alternative forms of medicine are generally used for these conditions.
