Quetapel

Quetapel (Quetiapine Fumarate) is classified as an atypical antipsychotic and is used to treat schizophrenia. It works on the brain, where it affects neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin, thereby helping to relieve some of the symptoms caused by this psychotic disorder. Patients affected by schizophrenia suffer from emotional problems, strange thoughts, a reduced interest in their daily life, hallucinations, hostile behavior and other symptoms. It is widely believed that these are caused by excessive dopamine activity in the central nervous system.

When administered, it acts as a dopamine antagonist, which blocks the receptors that dopamine works on. This helps to control the symptoms of schizophrenia. It also causes serotonin antagonism, as well as antagonism of other receptors. Patients affected by bipolar disorder may also be given this medicine to treat manic episodes associated with this condition. In some cases, it may be given alongside other medicines when used for bipolar disorder. Medical studies have been carried out which focused on other potential uses for it, including the treatment of major depressive disorder.

Quetapel (Quetiapine Fumarate) comes in tablets which may be administered alongside meals or without food. Physicians often direct patients to take it twice per day. Generally, patients undergoing treatment for schizophrenia may be instructed by their physician to begin with a daily dosage of 50mg on day 1 of treatment, 100mg on day 2, 200mg on day 3 and 300mg on day 4. After this, the dosage may be adjusted (either increased or decreased) based on the patient`s response to treatment and the physician`s professional opinion. Other conditions may require a different dosage regimen, and in all cases it will be necessary to comply with the instructions given by your physician.

If you notice any side effects during the course of treatment with Quetapel (Quetiapine Fumarate) tablets, you should inform your physician. Reactions which may occur include:

• Reduced libido
• Drowsy feeling
• Eating more than usual
• Increases in body weight
• Enlarged breasts or breast discharge

Serious side effects will require immediate medical attention. Examples of this can include visual disturbances, a sore penis erection which persists, tremors, severely stiff muscles, blisters on the skin and other severe adverse events which have not been referenced here.

Quetapel (Quetiapine Fumarate) could trigger hyperglycemia (high blood sugar levels). You should see a physician if you notice any signs of this, including thirst, severe hunger and a weak feeling.

Certain patients may experience thoughts of suicide. In all cases, you will be monitored by your physician, and regular medical appointments will be scheduled. Ensure that you see a physician immediately if you notice changes in your emotions or suicidal thoughts.

There may be a risk of a rare side effect called neuroleptic malignant syndrome associated with this drug. If you suffer from fever, perspiration, stiff muscles or any other serious symptoms, consult your physician straight away.
