Trichozole (Metronidazole) is an oral antibiotic used to treat a wide variety of infections. The medication operates by slowing or stopping the reproduction of bacteria cells making it easier for the immune system to control or destroy the infection. It is often used to treat patients suffering from infections affecting the joints, bones, respiratory tract, urinary tract, lungs, vagina, or intestines. Your physician may also prescribe this medication to treat other unlisted conditions.
Follow the directions of your physician while using Trichozole (Metronidazole) to get the most effective results from treatment. The normal dosage is one tablet administered once or twice each day for a period of medication lasting one or two weeks. These should be swallowed with a large glass of water and a meal to prevent nausea. Do not change the form of the tablets by splitting or crushing them as this may destroy or alter the effects of their contents. Never stop taking the medication before being told to do so, even if your symptoms seem to have disappeared, as the infection may not be completely eliminated and can return stronger or more resistant to treatment.
Side effects that may occur while using Trichozole (Metronidazole) include upset stomach, loss of appetite, constipation, headache, or metallic taste. Contact your physician as soon as possible if you experience severe side effects such as a rash, vomiting, sore throat or fever, numbness, tingling, burning sensations, or seizures. If you notice any other effects not listed above contact your physician, nurse, or pharmacist.
Trichozole (Metronidazole) should not be used to treat patients who are allergic to metronidazole. Also inform your physician if you have hepatic encephalopathy, porphyrias, diseases affecting the spinal cord, or decreased liver function as these conditions may cause unexpected complications during treatment.
