Tensinor

Tensinor (Atenolol) is a beta blocker, which is prescribed to treat chest pain (angina) and to reduce high blood pressure. This drug can treat these conditions by causing a relaxation of the blood vessels, and slowing down the heart rate, thereby resulting in a reduction of blood pressure, and an improvement in blood flow. There are also other uses for this medication, such as treating irregular heartbeats, prevention of migraine headaches and treating alcohol withdrawal symptoms.

Tensinor (Atenolol) comes as tablets, and each tablet contains 50mg of the active ingredient. In the majority of cases, adults undergoing treatment for hypertension are directed to start off with an initial dose consisting of 50mg per day. It usually takes 1 to 2 weeks for the full effects of this drug to be noticed, and if this dosage regimen fails to achieve an optimum response, the prescribing physician may decide that it is necessary to increase the dosage to 100mg, once per day. Migraine prophylaxis, esophageal varcieal hemorrhage prophylaxis, anxiety, angina, and angina prophylaxis may require different doses, and in all cases it is necessary to follow the instructions provided by your physician.

Possible side effects of Tensinor (Atenolol) include:

• Impotence
• Depression
• Sleep disturbances
• Feeling nervous or anxious

Tell your physician if you experience any side effects. Although it is rare, this medicine can sometimes cause severe reactions. You must seek medical care straight away if you notice hallucinations, changes in mood, Raynaud`s syndrome, bronchospasm, fainting or any other signs of a serious reaction.

If you suffer from or have ever been affected by hyperthyroidism, pheochromocytoma, any conditions related to circulation problems, heart disease, kidney disease, lung disease, asthma, diabetes or allergies, you must tell your physician before starting treatment.

While you are being treated with this drug, it is important to note that you should never abruptly cease taking it, as doing so could result in serious side effects. It is necessary to consult your physician when stopping treatment, as your dosage may need to be gradually decreased.
