Trazonil (Trazodone) is used in the treatment of depressive illness. It is classified as a serotonin antagonist and reuptake inhibitor (SARI) belonging to the tetracyclic antidepressant group of medicines. According to the opinion of many expert physicians, this medicine works by bringing about an increase in the levels of the neurotransmitter serotonin in the brain, thereby helping to stabilize the mood and relieve depression. A wide range of medical research has been carried out on this medicine, which focused on its effects if used for fibromyalgia, schizophrenia, diabetic neuropathy, obsessive compulsive disorder, bulimia and various other conditions.
Trazonil (Trazodone) is provided in the form of 50mg strength uncoated tablets for oral administration. Consult your physician before commencing treatment so that the right dosage can be calculated. Adults being treated for depression may be instructed by the physician to begin with 150mg per day (taken as separate doses). Following this, the maintenance dosage can be determined and the physician may decide to increase the dosage at 3 to 4 day intervals until a suitable dosage is found. The daily dosage will generally not exceed 400mg and in some cases may be even less than this. Therefore, it is essential to strictly comply with all instructions provided by the physician in charge of treatment.
If you are affected by any side effects during the course of treatment with Trazonil (Trazodone) tablets, inform your physician. Examples can include:
