Protecadin OD (Lafutidine) is used as an ulcer treatment, and to treat erosion, edema or hemorrhage of the gastric mucosa when these symptoms are associated with acute gastritis. In some cases, physicians have administered it to patients before surgery. Treatment with this medicine helps to inhibit the secretion of gastric acid, and it can also help protect the gastric mucosa and help to speed up the process of gastric mucosa restitution, making it an effective medicine for treating the conditions listed above. Recent medical studies have suggested that it may have some benefits if used alongside other medicines in patients with a helicobacter pylori infection.
Protecadin OD (Lafutidine) comes as 5mg or 10mg tablets. It is used to treat patients for different conditions, and each patient may need a different dosage regimen designed to suit their individual needs. Listen carefully to the instructions given by your physician. Adult patients who are treating ulcers are often prescribed a dosage of 10mg, administered twice per day. The first tablet should be taken after finishing breakfast, and the second one may be taken before going to sleep.
Physicians may instruct adults treating gastric mucosal lesions be told to take 10mg once per day, with the dosage taken after the evening meal has been consumed. If used for pre-anesthesia, it is likely that the physician will direct the patient to take 10mg once before the patient goes to sleep on the day prior to the surgical procedure taking place, and another 10mg to be taken 2 hours before the administration of anesthetics.
Treatment with Protecadin OD (Lafutidine) may sometimes result in side effects, such as:
Notify the physician providing you with treatment if any side effects occur. In some cases, patients taking this medicine may experience serious side effects, such as toxic epidermal necrolysis, asystolia, interstitial nephritis or other serious symptoms which have not been listed here. Medical treatment will be required immediately if this happens.
Dialytic patients may be told by their physician to start out on a lower dosage.
Never take more medicine than instructed by your physician.
