Malaseb (Miconazole Nitrate/Chlorhexidine Gluconate) is a medicated shampoo given to cats, dogs and horses to treat dermatitis, ringworm and general yeast or fungal based infections. It contains no artificial coloring, therefore will not cause damage or irritation to the skin.
Apply Malaseb (Miconazole Nitrate/Chlorhexidine Gluconate) directly onto wet fur, making sure you cover areas such as the lips, underneath the tail, in between the toes and other hidden areas which commonly hide germs. Massage into the coat to create as much lather as possible. Wait for 10 minutes before rinsing off with fresh running water.
You may be advised by your vet to repeat the above steps once or twice per week until the condition subsides. If in doubt always follow the instructions of your vet, or contact the vet for further assistance. Monitor your pet closely to ensure it does not lick, eat, or swallow the shampoo, as doing so can cause many possible side effects as listed in the side effects section of this description.
If you have one, it is a good idea to use a cone collar for the 10 minutes the shampoo is left on before being washed off. If the condition you are treating is contagious, you may need to also treat all other animals living in the same household in case of contamination.
Common side effects of Malaseb (Miconazole Nitrate/Chlorhexidine Gluconate) include ingestion, gastrointestinal, respiratory tract and eye irritation, all of which are a consequence of either ingesting the shampoo or getting it in the animals eye. In rare cases, symptoms may include vomiting, trouble breathing, swelling as well as pain or signs of infection. Immediately call your vet if your pet is suffering from any adverse effects.
Check with a vet to see if Malaseb (Miconazole Nitrate/Chlorhexidine Gluconate) is safe to use if your pet is taking any other medication.
This medication is only suitable for adult dogs, cats, and horses.
