Loxamine (Paroxetine Hydrochloride) is classified as a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). This antidepressant is indicated for the treatment of depression (major depressive disorder), panic disorder and social anxiety disorder (social phobia). It differs from many other antidepressant medicines (such as tricyclics) in terms of chemical structure, and is said to work by affecting serotonin and preventing it from being reabsorbed into the brain`s nerve cells. As a result of this, the mood lightening effects of serotonin can be prolonged, leading to a reduction in depression and other negative symptoms of psychological disorders. Other conditions for which this medicine may be used include post traumatic stress disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, premenstrual dysphoric disorder and medical disorders not listed here.
Loxamine (Paroxetine Hydrochloride) tablets each contain 20mg of the active ingredient. Your physician will individualize a suitable dosage regimen for you. Adults being treated for MDD (major depressive disorder) are commonly told to start with 20mg, taken once per day alongside food. It is common for patients to be told to take it in the morning. An adjustment to the dosage may be ordered by the physician depending on the patient`s response, and a maintenance dosage may be prescribed. In some cases, it can take as long as 4 weeks before an improvement in symptoms is noticed. Tell your physician if your condition show no signs of improvement.
