Fiprofort (Fipronil) works by attacking the nervous system of various ticks, lice and mites that can infest the fur of dogs. This helps to eliminate these insects and protect the animal against paralysis ticks, flea allergy dermatitis and other potential health problems. The pesticide contained in this solution is classified as a phenylpyrazole chemical, and it is known to exhibit toxic effects on insects.
By inhibiting GABA (gamma amino butyric acid, a type of neurotransmitter) receptors and blocking the chloride channel, it is able to produce uncontrolled muscular hyperexcitation and central nervous system toxicity. Fleas such as Rhipicephalus sanguineus, Dermacentor variabilis and Haemaphysalis longicornis are rapidly killed due to contact with the insecticide, usually within 24 hours of application. After it is applied to your dog`s skin, it can remain active for as long as 30 days, allowing it to continuously attack and eliminate the pests.
Fiprofort (Fipronil) is provided in pipettes which each contain 0.67ml of the solution. It is considered to be most suited for the treatment of small dogs (10kg in body weight or less). The veterinarian will decide how often it should be applied, and monthly administration is usually needed if the dog is being treated for fleas. Application is a straightforward process. Snap the top of the pipette and gently part your dog`s hair at the shoulder blades so that the skin is exposed. Squeeze the pipette and empty all of the solution onto your dog`s fur.
In general, dogs are usually tolerant of treatment with Fiprofort (Fipronil) solution. Owners are reminded of the importance of keeping a close eye on their pet. If it appears to show signs of irritation or any other side effects, it should be brought to the veterinarian.
Do not allow Fiprofort (Fipronil) to touch off your hands when you are treating your dog. Wash your hands using soap and water after use, and remember that it should also not be allowed to come into contact with the mucous membranes.
This solution is only for external use on animals. It should never be ingested by either humans or animals.
It is very important that the pipettes are safely disposed of after use. This can help to ensure that environmental pollution and damage to wildlife are avoided.
