Advantix (Imidacloprid/Permethrin) is a topical medication prescribed to treat infestations of ticks and fleas in larger dogs. The medication operates by being absorbed into the blood stream and killing any parasites that attempt to feed on it. It destroys existing parasites within two days, repels future infestations, and also eliminates any eggs or larvae that exist. Note that this is only meant to be used on dogs and will cause serious complications if applied to cats. It may be prescribed along with other medicines or to treat other conditions that are not listed here.
Follow your veterinarian`s instructions for using Advantix (Imidacloprid/Permethrin) to get the safest and most effective results. It is in pre-measured applicators that are normally applied every two to three months, but the best treatment for your dog will be determined by its weight, health condition, symptoms, and response to other treatments. Never alter these directions on your own as misuse can cause unexpected health problems.
To use the medicine, remove one applicator from the packaging and remove its top. Move the hair between the dog`s shoulder blades to expose the skin prior to use. Dispense the full contents of the applicator onto the patch of skin and dispose of it immediately. Do not massage or rub the solution into the skin. It will be absorbed into the skin and distributed throughout the blood stream naturally. It is not suggested to bath the animal within two days of application as part of the dosage may remain on the skin surface and will be washed away.
You may be instructed to bring your dog in for regular consultations to make sure it is getting the correct results from treatment. After observing its progress and response to treatment, you may be instructed to adjust the dosage or frequency of administration until the best effects are found. Ask your pharmacist or veterinarian if you have any questions about the medicine`s use to ensure the correct application.
The use of Advantix (Imidacloprid/Permethrin) will not usually cause any side effects when applied correctly. If you do witness any unusual symptoms occurring in your pet, inform your veterinarian as soon as possible to make sure the correct response is taken. This may include reducing the animal`s dosage or frequency of administration to prevent further problems. If more serious health problems are required, emergency medical attention may also be required.
Side effects that may occur during treatment include:
It is suggested to bring your dog in for a check-up prior to beginning the use of Advantix (Imidacloprid/Permethrin) to make sure it does not have any health conditions that may lead to complications during treatment. These can require reduced dosages or other adjustments to treatment to prevent these potential health problems from occurring.
If your pet has an allergic or hypersensitive reaction, seek emergency medical attention. Possible symptoms include difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing, swelling, chest tightness, skin rashes, and hives.
Advantix (Imidacloprid/Permethrin) should only be used as instructed and prescribed by your veterinarian or pharmacist. Do not alter the dosage unless specifically instructed to do so by either of the above. Dosage and usage often depend on the severity of the condition, as well as the animal`s medical history and current health condition.
