Atarax Injection (Hydroxyzine) is used intravenously to treat hysterical patients or those who have conditions such as anxiety as a result of chronic or acute alcoholism, withdrawal symptoms, or delirium.
It can also be used to treat short-term of tension or nervousness which result from mental or mood disorders. In some rare cases it may be prescribed to treat allergic reactions in patients.
Strictly follow your prescription. Never change your dosage without first consulting your physician. For adult patients suffering from emotional and psychiatric disorders and those with acute alcoholism problems, dosage will usually be between 50mg and 100mg per day, every 4 to 6 hours.
When used by adults with a pre or post operative adjunctive treatment, it should be administered at a dosage of between 25mg and 100mg. When used to treat vomiting nausea, the normal dosage is from 25mg to 100mg for adults, and 1mg per kilogram of weight for children. The recommended site of administration for adults is the gluteus maximus or the mid-lateral thigh. For children the mid lateral thigh muscles are the recommended administration site.
Like many other drugs, use of Atarax Injection (Hydroxyzine) does present a risk of side effects. Most side effects experienced by patients using this medication are mild and short-lasting, however all should be reported to your physician. Promptly consult your physician if any side effects persist or worsen.
When taken in high dosages patients have reported experiencing dry mouth, headaches, or drowsiness.
