Algesal Ointment (Dietilamin Salisilat) is made from a salicylic acid derivative and it works by relieving pain. Indications include pain caused by musculo-skeletal disorders, which may include fibrositis, sciatica, lumbago and soreness occurring as a result of sprains and bruising. Patients have also used it for aches affecting the back. This cream is able to function as an anti-inflammatory agent, while also exhibiting analgesic activity. Experts have stated that this medicine may work by counter irritation, so as to produce a heat sensation which acts as a distraction for the brain, thereby helping to reduce the sensation of pain. The active ingredient is also known as diethylammonium salicylate.

Algesal Ointment (Dietilamin Salisilat) is applied by means of topical application to the skin surrounding the area that is suffering from pain. Visit your physician to determine the required frequency of application. In most cases, adult patients will be directed by their physician to apply the ointment 3 times per day. It should be gently rubbed into the skin so that it can be absorbed. Excessive use is not recommended, as this will put the patient at risk of side effects.

Algesal Ointment (Dietilamin Salisilat) could trigger side effects in some patients, most of which are mild. Tell your physician if this happens. Examples may include:

• Irritated feeling
• Light sensitivity of the skin

Algesal Ointment (Dietilamin Salisilat) is intended for external use on the skin. Under no circumstances should it be ingested or applied to broken skin or sensitive areas.

If this ointment is used on an excessively large area of the skin, there is a risk of it being absorbed, which could cause serious reactions.
