Accuzon Injection (Ceftriaxone) is an cephalosporin-class antibiotic that can be used to treat many different type of bacterial infection. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria.
Accuzon will need to be injected into the muscle (intramuscular injection) or into the vein (intravenous injection). This should be performed by medical staff, or by somebody who has received clear instructions about how to inject Ceftriaxone.
Dosage will be dependant on the condition and prescribed on an individual basis. The dosage can be mixed with the fluid for injecting.
You may notice pain, redness and swelling around the injection site. For the first injection you may require medical supervision to ensure you do not have an allergic reaction.
Some people may also experience loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or headache while taking Ceftriaxone.
If you notice any severe side effects contact your doctor immediately. This includes bruising or bleeding more easily than usual, changes to your regular heartbeat, seizures, unusual weakness or tiredness, jaundice (yellowing of the eyes or skin), dark/pink/bloody urine, change in the amount of urine, painful urination, pain in your back or sides, chest pain, trouble breathing, changes to your mood, general confusion.
Prolonged use of an antibiotic like Ceftriaxone can result in a specific type of diarrhea called Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea. If you notice persistent diarrhea, sever abdominal pain or cramping, or blood or mucus in your stool, contact your doctor.
Prolonged treatment with Accuzon can lead to oral thrush or vaginal yeast infections.
Ceftriaxone should not be injected into babies with high blood bilirubin levels, or in premature babies due to an increased risk of side effects in the groups.
Before taking Ceftriaxone, make sure you tell your doctor if you have ever had an allergic reaction to antibiotics. Also tell them any medicines you are currently taking so that they can check for any unwanted drug interactions.
