Zithromac

Zithromac (Azithromycin Hydrate) is in a subclass of macrolide antibiotics referred to as azalides and it works by preventing susceptible bacteria from developing the proteins required to spread. It is considered especially effective against a serious type of lung infection called disseminated mycobacterium avium complex (MAC).

Many other types of infection, such as chlamydia and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), infections of the ears, throat, sinuses, lungs and skin, pertussis, traveler`s diarrhea and a wide range of infections caused by microorganisms are also treated with this medicine. However, while it is effective against bacteria, it must be noted that it will not work for viral infections.

Zithromac (Azithromycin Hydrate) comes in the form of 250mg or 600mg strength tablets. As a variety of bacterial infections are able to be treated with it, the exact amount required will be different for each individual, and your physician will decide the dosage based on what condition you are treating. It is essential to cooperate with your physician and take the medicine exactly as instructed and you must continue treatment for as long as your physician deems necessary, so as to properly treat the infection and prevent it from returning.

Zithromac (Azithromycin Hydrate) may cause:

• Nausea
• Indigestion
• Loose stools
• Headache
• Pain that affects the stomach

Your physician should be informed if any side effects occur. It is possible that side effects of a serious nature may be experienced by some patients. Consult your physician immediately if you notice low energy levels, extreme fatigue, a reduced appetite, skin blisters, severe dizziness or any other serious symptoms.

If signs of colitis occur, such as bloody or severe diarrhea, see your physician immediately.

In some cases, patients who take broad spectrum antibiotics may be at risk of other types of infection, such as fungal infections. If you notice any signs of an infection, you will need to go and see your physician immediately.
