Xylocaine

Xylocaine (Lidocaine) belongs to a group of medicines called local anesthetics prescribed to treat pain following burns or minor injuries. It operates by preventing nerves from sending pain signals to the brain. Your physician may also prescribe the medication to treat other unlisted conditions.

Follow all directions given to you by your physician, pharmacist or dentist while using Xylocaine (Lidocaine) to get the safest and most effective results. To use the ointment rinse and dry the area being treated, apply a small amount of ointment, and gently massage it into the skin allowing any excess medication to evaporate. Thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water after each use to prevent the medicine from contacting other areas not being treated.

Side effects that may occur while using Xylocaine Ointment (Lidocaine) include:

• Mild irritation or redness
• Unusual swelling
• Numbness at the site of application

Serious side effects that may occur are tremors, drowsiness, irregular heartbeats, or blurred vision. Contact your physician if you experience any serious side effects that are worrying to you.

Do not use Xylocaine Ointment if you are pregnant or breastfeeding unless your physician says it is safe to do so. Tell your physician or pharmacist if you have any allergies to lidocaine, epilepsy, heart, liver or kidney problems, open wounds, or widespread infections.
