Terramycin Ophthalmic Ointment (Oxytetracycline Hydrochloride) is a topical antibacterial treatment for eye infections occurring in dogs and cats. It works by blocking the synthesis of bacterial protein, which prevents bacterial growth and allows the immune system to eliminate any leftover microorganisms. The active ingredient is classified as a tetracycline antibiotic and it is known to exhibit a considerably broad spectrum of activity.
It targets both gram positive and gram negative bacteria, such as pseudomonas aeruginosa (a particularly common type of bacteria which is responsible for many infections in animals). Conditions for which this ointment is commonly used for include blepharitis, bacterial infections which occur alongside other infectious conditions, corneal ulcers, pink eye, conjunctivitis and various other disorders which are not mentioned here. In some cases, veterinarians may recommend use of this product to treat other types of animals, including horses, sheep and cattle.
Terramycin Ophthalmic Ointment (Oxytetracycline Hydrochloride) is applied directly to the animal`s eye or eyes in strict accordance with the directions given by the veterinarian who is providing treatment. In general, pet owners will be instructed to administer the ointment to their animal`s eye 2 to 4 times per day. It is important to note that the length of time for which treatment will be required to continue may be different for each animal, based on the severity of its symptoms. Usually, treatment will continue until the infection has healed, and you may need to take the animal to the veterinarian for further checkups to ensure that it has fully recovered.
Keep a close eye on your pet while it is being treated with Terramycin Ophthalmic Ointment (Oxytetracycline Hydrochloride) to ensure that it is not suffering from any reactions. If you suspect that it is suffering from any adverse events, bring it to a vet so that it can obtain the necessary treatment.
Terramycin Ophthalmic Ointment (Oxytetracycline Hydrochloride) is a veterinary product. It is not approved for use in humans.
This ointment is only to be used externally. It must not be consumed orally or otherwise ingested by either humans or animals.
In some cases, new infections may occur because of resistant bacteria. Bring your animal to the veterinarian if this occurs.
