Suminat (Sumatriptan Succinate) is used for the treatment of severe migraine headaches. It works by narrowing the blood vessels in ceratin parts of the brain, that are thought to be cuase of migraine headcahes.
Suminat (Sumatriptan Succinate) or other Sumatriptan based medicines do not prevent migraine headaches and they are ineffective at treating at other types headaches.
Suminat (Sumatriptan Succinate) is at its most effective when you feel the symptoms of a migraine coming on.
In most situations you will take one Suminat (Sumatriptan Succinate) tablet at the onset of the migraine headache. You may be able to take a second tablet after 2 hours if the symptoms of the migraine have not been relieved. If the symptoms still persist, you must seek medical attention. Do not take more than 200mg of the tablets, or two tablets, in a 24 hour period.
Some patients may experience side effects after taking this medication. Some of the reported side effects after taking Suminat (Sumatriptan Succinate) tablets include pain or tingling sensations in the body, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, changes in blood pressure and changes in vision.
Others may experience more serious side effects including convulsions or an irregular. While on rare occasions patients may experience an allergic reaction to Suminat (Sumatriptan Succinate) with side effects including wheezing, difficulty breathing, hay fever or a rash. If you experience any of these side effects you should urgent medical attention.
Combining Suminat (Sumatriptan Succinate) with other medications can be dangerous. You are advised to tell your physician if you are taking any other medications, including homeopathic remedies. You are strongly advised to inform your physician if you taken any MAO Inhibitor medication in the last 14 days. You shoud also tell your physician if you intend taking a MAO Inhibitor with in 14 days of taking Suminat (Sumatriptan Succinate).
