Plavix

Plavix (Clopidogrel Bisulfate) is a blood thinner that can help keep blood clots from forming by stopping the platelets from clumping together. Patients affected by conditions such as angina, coronary artery disease and other blood vessel or heart disorders may be given this medicine to help prevent the formation of blood clots. It is also used to prevent strokes or heart attacks in people who have recently suffered from serious cardiovascular problems.

Atherosclerosis (the accumulation of cholesterol in the blood vessels) can make it increasingly difficult for the blood to flow through the vessels, which can increase the likelihood of blood clots. Other factors may also put the patient at a higher risk. In cases like this, treatment with an antiplatelet agent such as this one may be recommended. When administered, its active metabolite starts to take effect on a natural compound called adenosine diphosphate (ADP).

It is then able to prevent the aggregation of platelets (blood cells that play a role in the clotting of blood) by stopping ADP from attaching to the P2Y12 receptors on the platelets. Because the platelets are prevented from grouping together, the risk of clots forming is significantly reduced and the blood is able to flow throughout the body in a much smoother manner.

Plavix (Clopidogrel Bisulfate) tablets each contain 75mg of the active ingredient and are intended to be taken orally. Patients will be provided with all dosage instructions by their physician. Adults being treated for peripheral arterial disease, ischemic stroke or for the prophylaxis of acute coronary syndrome may be instructed by their physician to take 75mg per day. In some cases, treatment with other medicines may be needed. Other conditions may require a different dosage regimen, which could involve a loading dose. Therefore, it will be very important to listen carefully to the dosage instructions provided by your physician.

Treatment with Plavix (Clopidogrel Bisulfate) could trigger side effects in some patients. You will need to report any reactions that occur to your physician. A list of some possible reactions is provided here:

• Fatigue
• Vomiting
• Vertigo or headache
• Pain which affects the abdomen/li>
• Longer time needed for bleeding to stop

Severe adverse events will need medical treatment or the attention of a physician straight away. These may include serious bleeding that does not clot, seizures, disturbances in eyesight, speech problems, blood visible in the stools and other severe reactions which have not been referenced in this paragraph.

Plavix (Clopidogrel Bisulfate) affects the blood`s ability to clot, and because of this, bleeding caused by injuries or cuts may take more time to stop. You should avoid physical sports or any other activities that are likely to result in injury.

Treatment will need to be ceased before you undergo any surgical or dental procedures due to the risk of prolonged bleeding. Your physician will advise you when you need to stop and when it is safe to start taking it again.
