Lopid (Gemfibrozil) is used together with diet changes to help reduce cholesterol and fatty acids (known as triglycerides) which are found in the blood. It works by reducing the amount of triglycerides produced by the liver, which in turn helps to reduce the level of fatty acids in the blood, thereby minimizing the risk of heart attacks and strokes. This medication is also used by those at risk of pancreatic disease and those suffering from pancreatitis.
Lopid (Gemfibrozil) should be taken orally. Adult patients are most commonly prescribed this medication twice a day, 30 minutes before their morning and evening meals. The exact dose may vary depending on the patient`s medical condition and response to treatment. You should always follow the directions of your physician and never exceed the dosage prescribed to you.
