Lithium Carbonate is a psychiatric medicine which is effective in preventing attacks of depression or mania. It works by affecting the sodium transport in the cells, so as to affect the production and metabolism of neurotransmitters in the brain. This in turn can decrease the occurrence of manic episodes, while also helping to manage hypo-mania and aggressive behavior. Indications include manic episodes or maintenance in patients with bipolar disorder, depression and other related disorders. In some cases, physicians may use it to treat patients affected by other medical conditions not listed here.
Take Lithium Carbonate as you have been prescribed by your doctor. The number of Lithium Carbonate tablets you need is based on your blood test results. Being prescribed a high number of tablets does not mean you have a severe illness. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.
The tablets should be taken morning and night. Taking the tablets after meals may also reduce any side effects.
