Description

Uses

Inmecin (Indomethacin) is taken for pain, stiffness of the joints and swelling caused by arthritis and other related conditions, including bursitis and tendonitis. This medicine is non-steroidal, and is known to function as a potent inhibitor of prostaglandins and their synthesis. Prostaglandins are known to sensitize certain nerves and are suspected to increase the pain caused by bradykinin. In addition to this, they are regarded as a key mediator of inflammation. Medical experts believe that this medicine works by triggering a decrease in prostaglandins present in the peripheral tissues in the body, which may explain its pain relieving and anti-inflammatory effects.

Although this medicine is widely used to provide effective relief from the symptoms of osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and rheumatoid arthritis, it will not cure the condition or slow down disease progression. Patients with rheumatoid arthritis may notice reduced joint inflammation and an increase in mobility and grip strength. Other uses for this medicine include pain in the lower back, soreness due to injury, acute symptoms of gout and some disorders which have not been listed here.

Dosage and Administration

Inmecin (Indomethacin) is administered by mouth, in strict accordance with the instructions given by the physician responsible for providing medical treatment. Some patients may be directed by their physician to administer it alongside food, or right after eating, in order to lessen gastric irritation. Adult patients undergoing treatment for ankylosing spondylitis, rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis may be told by their physician to administer 25mg every 8 to 12 hours. It is possible that the physician may decide to adjust this dosage based on how the patient responds to treatment. However, you should not increase the dosage unless your physician tells you to do so. In all cases, patients must only administer the amount of medicine their physician tells them to take.

Side effects

Patients who are taking Inmecin (Indomethacin) should take note of the fact that side effects can occur. You will need to report all reactions to the physician. Some examples may include:

  • Diarrhea
  • Blurred eyesight
  • Hearing a ringing noise
  • Anxious or nervous mood
  • Bloated sensation or constipation

Other reactions are also possible. Some patients may also be affected by more serious adverse events which will need immediate medical attention or treatment, such as appetite loss, blisters, sudden body weight gain, visual disturbances, speech problems and other severe side effects which have not been referenced here.

Precautions

Patients should avoid drinking alcohol while taking Inmecin (Indomethacin) to treat their symptoms, as it can further increase the risks of bleeding in the stomach. If any signs of stomach bleeding do occur, get medical attention immediately.

There may be a risk of serious cardiovascular effects associated with this medicine. Ensure that you fully discuss all the potential risks of treatment with your physician before taking this medicine.
