Hilin

Hilin (Diacerein) is classified as an anthraquinone and is used for treating osteoarthritis and other joint problems. Its mechanism of action involves blocking interleukin-1 beta so as to alleviate the symptoms of these conditions. Interleukin-1 beta is a type of protein called a cytokine and it is known to play an important role in the destruction of cartilage and inflammation. Blocking its synthesis helps to prevent this. Medical expert also believe that it may exhibit other mechanisms of action.

Hilin (Diacerein) comes in tablet form, and the strength of each one is 50mg. Your physician will assess the extent of your symptoms and decide on the appropriate treatment and dosage schedule. In general, patients will be started out with a low dosage for the initial 2 to 4 week period, and after this, the dosage may be increased if the physician deems it safe and necessary. Do not take more than the amount your physician recommends, as this may be dangerous.

Treatment of osteoarthritis or other conditions with Hilin (Diacerein) could result in some patients experiencing side effects. Consult your physician if this happens. Examples include:

• Nausea
• Diarrhea
• Vomiting
• Discolored urine
• Pain in the abdomen

Because there may be a risk of severe diarrhea associated with this medicine, the physician may recommend discontinuing treatment if you suffer from diarrhea. Seek medical treatment as soon as possible if any serious side effects occur.

Hilin (Diacerein) is not to be used in patients who are currently affected by liver disease or who have a history of conditions affecting the liver.

This medicine is only considered effective for the treatment of osteoarthritis affecting the knees or hips, and is not used to treat osteoarthritis of the hip which is considered to be rapidly progressive.
