Flucon (Fluorometholone) is a steroid eye drop prescribed to treat inflammations of your eye and your eyelid. It contains the active ingredient Fluorometholone, which belongs to a type of medicines known as corticosteroids. This ingredient helps to reduce the release of the chemicals that cause the inflammation to occur, which in turn helps to reduce the inflammation.
Your dose will depend on your medical history and the exact treatment you are being treated for. Always use Flucon (Fluorometholone) strictly as directed by your health care provider. Do not use Flucon for longer than prescribed by your health care provider. Prolonged use may increase the risk of side effects occurring and even cause permanent eye damage.
Normally 1 or 2 drops per eye is taken every 4 hours. To administer the eye drops, thoroughly wash your hands, shake the bottle well. Gently pull down the lower eye lid, and hold the bottle above the pocket. Squeeze out 1 or 2 drops of the medication without touching the applicator to any part of your eye or any other surface. After this has been done, close your eyes for 1 to 2 minutes to allow the eye drop to spread around your eye. When finished, do not rinse the applicator from your eye and do not apply any further eye drops for 10 minutes.
As with all medications, Flucon (Fluorometholone) has the potential to cause side effects in some patients. Side effects include blurry vision, the forming of cataracts, pinkeye, corneal ulcers, drooping eyelids, alteration to your taste, an allergic reaction, inflammation of the eye, and wounds may be slow to heal.
If Flucon Eye Drops (Fluorometholone) is accidently swallowed, seek immediate medical attention.
Never give Flucon Eye Drops (Fluorometholone) to children under 2 years of age.
