Elocon Lotion (Mometasone Furoate) contains the active ingredient mometasone furoate, which is a type of medicine called a corticosteroid. Corticosteroids are medicines used for reducing inflammation. Inflammation of the skin happens due to irritation of the skin, and is caused by the release of various substances that are important in the immune system. These substances cause blood vessels to widen, resulting in the irritated area becoming red, swollen, itchy and painful.
This medicine contains mometasone formulated as a scalp application, which is thinner and easier to apply to the scalp than the mometasone ointments and creams used on the rest of the body. It is used to treat severe inflammatory disorders of the scalp that have not responded to milder steroids, as well as psoriasis of the scalp.
Always use Elocon Lotion (Mometasone Furoate) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated. Apply a thin film of the cream or ointment or a few drops of the lotion to the affected skin once a day. Massage it in until it disappears.
For the most effective and economical use of Elocon Lotion (Mometasone Furoate), hold the tip of the bottle very close to (but not touching) the affected skin and squeeze the bottle gently.Once you have applied Elocon Lotion (Mometasone Furoate), never cover the skin with an airtight bandage, a tight diaper, plastic pants, or any other airtight dressing. This could encourage excessive absorption of the medication into your bloodstream.
