Dutagen

Dutagen (Dutasteride) is approved for the treatment of BPH, but has also shown positive results for treatment of hairloss. Dutasteride acts by inhibiting DHT,one of the main cause of male patern baldness. BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia) is when the prostate is enlarged in men and causes problems with urinating. This drug shrinks the enlarged prostate over time and brings relief from the symptoms commonly associated with BPH. Adult males affected by male pattern hair loss sometimes use this drug for baldness.

Dutagen (Dutasteride) may be administered with or without food. The recommended dose is 1 capsule (0.5mg) taken orally once a day. The capsule should be swallowed whole.

Dutagen (Dutasteride) side effects include impotence (trouble getting or keeping an erection), a decrease in libido (sex drive), breast enlargement and tenderness (gynecomastia), a decrease in the amount of semen released during sex. These side effects usually decrease or disappear with continued usage, or stopping the medication altogether.

Do not stop taking dutasteride without first talking to your physician. While some men have fewer problems and symptoms after 3 months of treatment with dutasteride, a treatment period of at least 6 months is usually necessary to see if treatment with dutasteride will be beneficial.

Women who are or who may become pregnant must not handle dutasteride capsules. The medication can be absorbed through the skin and may cause birth defects in the unborn baby. Do not donate blood until at least 6 months have passed since the last dose of dutasteride is taken to prevent pregnant women from receiving dutasteride through blood transfusion.
