Distoside (Praziquantel) is classified as an anthelmintic and it works for human parasite infections by stopping the insect larvae from growing and spreading. Indications include schistosoma worm and liver fluke infections. In some cases, physicians have also treated for patients with it for tapeworms. When used in the treatment of schistosoma infections (a type of worm which can cause parasitic diseases), it attacks the cell membrane, causing the worm to disintegrate.
Distoside (Praziquantel) comes provided as 600mg strength tablets, and administration takes place by means of the oral route. Because this medicine is used for a wide range of parasite infections (schistosoma, echinococcus, cysticercus and many others not mentioned here), the dosage required will be unique for each patient. Your physician will also calculate the dosage based on your body weight. In all cases, it is necessary to fully comply with all instructions provided by your physician.
Patients using the antihelmintic medicine Distoside (Praziquantel) might suffer from side effects. Inform your physician if this happens. Some are listed here:
You will need to attend the emergency room straight away or visit your physician immediately if you are affected by a painful feeling when passing urine, extreme pain affecting the abdomen, loss of consciousness or any other severe reactions not referenced in this paragraph.
Patients affected by ocular cysticercosis are usually told by their physician not to use Distoside (Praziquantel) for their condition.
This medicine may not be suitable for patients who are prone to seizures, such as those caused by epilepsy.
