Rezatrin Forte (Artemether/Lumefantrine) is used to treat acute malaria. Both its active ingredients work differently to block the synthesis of protein by the parasites and treat the infection. Medical experts believe that lumefantrine works by blocking the production of B-hematin. The other ingredient (artemether) is metabolized into its active form diydroartemisnin upon ingestion, and it acts on the malarial parasites, attacking the blood schizonts. As a result of this, the parasites that cause the infection are destroyed.
Rezatrin Forte (Artemether/Lumefantrine) comes as uncoated tablets, each of which contains 80mg of artemether and 480mg of lumefantrine. The dosage will be calculated by the physician. Usually, adult patients will be directed by the physician treating them to take one tablet as soon as the condition is diagnosed. Following this, the physician may ask the patient to take another one tablet 8 hours after the first. For the next 2 days, the patient may be told to take 1 tablet every 12 hours. This means that a total of 6 tablets will be taken for the 3 day treatment period. Only take the amount that your physician tells you to take.
Treatment with the antimalarial medicine Rezatrin Forte (Artemether/Lumefantrine) could trigger side effects. Inform your physician if this happens. Examples include:
Certain side effects can be serious and will require that the patient gets medical care straight away. These can include speech problems, loss of consciousness, headaches which are serious and other severe adverse events that have not been listed here.
Rezatrin Forte (Artemether/Lumefantrine) is not used for prophylaxis (prevention) of malaria.
Grapefruit juice should be avoided during treatment, as it may interact with the medicine.
