Clonil

Clonil (Clomipramine) is classified as a tricyclic antidepressant. Its antiobsessional properties make it useful in treating OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder). Medical experts believe that it is able to affect and reverse compulsions, obsessions and other symptoms of OCD by acting on the neuronal transmission of the neurotransmitter serotonin and preventing its reuptake. Some physicians have treated patients for depression with this medicine, and it has also been studied by leading research experts to examine its effects if used for panic disorder, chronic pain, premature ejaculation and other medical conditions.

Clonil (Clomipramine) is administered orally, and each tablet contains 50mg of the active ingredient. The daily dosage for OCD can depend on the severity of symptoms, and individualization will be required. Before treatment can commence, the patient will be examined and assessed by their physician and an appropriate dosing schedule tailored. In some cases, adults may be started out with 25mg per day, which may then be adjusted if the physician deems it necessary. However, you must not take more than your physician advises.

Administration of Clonil (Clomipramine) has been known to lead to side effects, and it is possible that patients taking it will report reactions. Tell your physician about any side effects you notice. Possible examples can include:

• Loss of energy
• Reduced appetite
• Spinning sensation
• Drowsy or tired feeling
• Weight gain or reduction

Apart from mild reactions, other adverse events that are severe in nature can occur. Patients will need to get medical help straight away if they notice tremors, painful or frequent urination, seizures, visual disruption, stiff muscles or any other serious side effects that have not been referenced here.

Clonil (Clomipramine) must not be combined with an MAO (monoamine oxidase) inhibitor or if an MAOI has been taken within the preceding 14 days. If treatment with this medicine is ceased, a waiting period of 14 days or more may be required by your physician before an MAO inhibitor can be taken again.

A small amount of patients treated with antidepressant medicines may display signs of suicidal thinking or a worsening of depression. It will be necessary to see a physician should this occur.
