Ciplactin

Ciplactin (Cyproheptadine) is indicated for vasomotor and seasonal rhinitis, as well as allergies. This drug works by acting on the histamine and serotonin receptors. It is classified as a sedating antihistamine. In hay fever, perennial allergic rhinitis and other related conditions, patients experience irritation in the form of a blocked nose, persistent sneezing, pruritis and other symptoms. These reactions occur as a result of histamine, a nitrogenous chemical that causes an immune system response to invading pathogens or allergens (such as pollen), binding to its receptors triggering allergy symptoms at the affected area.

It is released by the body as part of a defensive response, resulting in blood flow to the affected area. This causes the symptoms listed above. Use of this medicine helps to combat rhinitis by inhibiting the H1 receptors which histamine normally acts on, thereby preventing any histamine released from producing allergy symptoms. This helps to relieve rhinitis, and can also work for mild angioedema, urticaria and some bug or insect bites.

Antiserotonergic properties are also exhibited by this drug, meaning that it competes with serotonin at its receptors, which may help to minimize or reduce serotonin activity. Because of this, it has been taken by some patients for migraine relief. Physicians have also used it for patients affected by dermatographism or in combination with epinephrine and other treatment forms for serious allergic reactions. It has been the subject of medical research, which focused on its possible effects if used for Cushing`s syndrome, anorexia and sexual dysfunction.

Each Ciplactin (Cyproheptadine) tablet contains 4mg of the active ingredient. Because of the broad range of indications, the exact dosage can differ based on the individual circumstances. Adults affected by hay fever may be ordered by their physician to take 4mg (one tablet) 3 times every day. Alterations to the dosage schedule may be made by the physician for maintenance treatment depending on how the patient responds to treatment.

In some cases, adults undergoing treatment for migraine have been told by the physician providing medical care to administer a dosage ranging from 4mg to 8mg, 3 times per day. Patients with Cushing`s syndrome may be told to start out with 2mg (taken 4 times per day), with this dosage increased under the direction of the physician over a 3 week period. Complete compliance with the physician`s instructions is required at all times.

Apart from the intended therapeutic effects, Ciplactin (Cyproheptadine) has been known to cause side effects, some of which are listed here:

• Vertigo
• Weight gain
• Appetite increase
• Perspiring more than usual
• Drowsy feeling which is mild

All side effects experienced need to be promptly reported to the physician in charge of treatment. Should you notice seizures, bruises on the skin, a ringing noise in the ears, difficulty passing urine, disturbances affecting your vision or any other side effects that are not included in this paragraph, consult your physician as soon as possible.

Drinking alcohol alongside Ciplactin (Cyproheptadine) could cause increased fatigue and can also worsen the drowsy effects of this medicine. Patients are normally told by their physician not to drink alcohol during treatment.

You must not drive after taking this medicine if you experience drowsiness, as this could place you at increased risk of a serious accident.
