Levorid

Levorid (Levocetirizine) is a non-drowsy anti-histamine which weakens the allergic response caused by histamine. This helps to control and reduce persistent seasonal allergic rhinitis symptoms. In addition to hay fever, it can also help to bring under control the negative effects caused by other allergies, including year round allergies (perennial allergic rhinitis) and those triggered by pets or dust. CIU (chronic idiopathic urticaria), a condition which causes hives and raised bumps to appear on the skin can also be treated with it. The primary effects of this medicine are achieved by selectively blocking the H1-histamine receptors, which in turn helps to stop the allergic response triggered by histamine during a reaction. Treatment of allergic rhinitis with this medicine can not only improve the flow of air through the nose, but also reduce nasal congestion and other AR symptoms.

Levorid (Levocetirizine) is provided in the form of film coated tablets, each containing 5mg of the main ingredient. Each patient will have their individual needs evaluated by a physician before the commencement of treatment. This will help to ensure that the best results are achieved from treatment. Adults taking this medicine for urticaria or rhinitis will generally be instructed by their physician to take 5mg once every day. The tablet is generally administered in the evening time together with a glass of water. However, patients with certain medical problems (such as renal impairment) may require a lower dosage. It is therefore extremely important to comply with all directions provided by the physician in charge of treatment.

Use of Levorid (Levocetirizine) might lead to side effects, such as:

• Coughing
• Nosebleeds
• Dry throat or mouth
• Drowsy or tired sensation
• Slight pain that affects the muscles

Remain in regular contact with your physician and ensure that all reactions are reported. Although the most commonly experienced reactions are usually not serious in nature, serious side effects have been known to occur in rare cases. Examples of this can include ear pain, problems related to hearing, soreness when passing urine, hallucinations, mood changes and other potential reactions that have not been referenced in this paragraph. Medical attention will be needed immediately if any serious side effects occur.

After taking Levorid (Levocetirizine) tablets, you must not partake in any hazardous activities, especially those which require a high degree of alertness and concentration (such as driving). This is because anti-histamines are known to cause drowsiness.

You must not exceed the dosage recommended by your physician, as this will not make your allergy symptoms go away faster, but it could lead to potentially dangerous and severe reactions.
