Calgel (Lidocaine HCL/Cetylpyridinium Chloride) is used to relieve teething pain. It works as a local anesthetic, and it also exhibits antiseptic effects. Lidocaine is used topically for its pain relieving effects. It acts on the nerves, and affects the transmission of pain signals to the brain. This produces a numbing effect, which helps to alleviate sensations of pain. Cetylpyridinium chloride is a compound with antiseptic properties. This helps to guard the gums against infection.
Calgel (Lidocaine HCL/Cetylpyridinium Chloride) may not be safe or suitable for use in some children or infants. Therefore, seek the advice of a physician before using it on children, and only use it if the physician deems it safe. In general, physicians recommend applying a small amount of gel onto a cotton pad or a clean finger, after which it may be gently rubbed onto the gums. Do not reapply it until at least 20 minutes after the first application. Physicians normally tell patients not to apply it more than 6 times every day.
Calgel (Lidocaine HCL/Cetylpyridinium Chloride) should be discontinued and a physician consulted if any side effects occur after use. Serious reactions will require medical attention immediately.
Calgel (Lidocaine HCL/Cetylpyridinium Chloride) should not be used excessively, as this could cause health problems. If too much is administered by accident, get medical help.
Do not use this product on children or infants unless a physician has told you that it is safe to do so.
