Arrow-Lisinopril (Lisinopril) is a type of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor used to treat hypertension, myocardial infarction and heart failure. It works by inhibiting ACE, which in turn blocks the production of angiotensin II, a substance which functions by tightening the blood vessels. In addition to this, it also triggers the release of a hormone called aldosterone, which further contributes to increased blood pressure. As ACE is blocked from acting, the blood vessels therefore become more relaxed and widened. Heart failure symptoms may also be improved, however it is usually administered alongside other medicines when used for this condition.
Arrow-Lisinopril (Lisinopril) is available as 5mg, 10mg and 20mg strength tablets and is generally administered once per day. The exact amount that needs to be taken, as well as the strength of tablet required will differ according to each situation, and patients must listen carefully to the instructions handed out by their physician. Adult patients treating high blood pressure may be advised to take either 5mg or 10mg per day as a starting dosage. This may be adjusted by the physician to a maintenance dosage which may range from 10mg to 20mg per day. Other medical disorders may be treated with a different dosage and in all cases it will be necessary to strictly comply with the instructions given by the physician.
Patients using the ACE inhibitor Arrow-Lisinopril (Lisinopril) will need to report any side effects to their physician. Examples can include:
The list provided above is not complete and other reactions are also possible. Consult your physician straight away if you suffer from sudden swelling and increased body weight, signs of fever, aching of the body, muscular problems, a noticeable drop in the amount of urine excreted or any other severe adverse events which are not referenced here.
Patients undergoing treatment with Arrow-Lisinopril (Lisinopril) will be required to attend their physician`s office at regular intervals to undergo blood pressure checks, as well as monitoring of the kidney and liver function.
