Strongheart (Ivermectin/Pyrantel Pamoate) is an oral medication given to adult dogs and puppies of at least 6 weeks of age to treat heartworm. In certain circumstances it may also be useful in treating hookworm, ascarids, toxocara canis, toxascaris leonine. It works by preventing the parasites from multiplying further, which is done by paralyzing their immune systems.
Please note that before using this medication you must have first tested your dog positive for Heartworm.
Always follow either your vet`s instructions or the instructions printed on this product`s packaging. Normal dosage is one Strongheart (Ivermectin/Pyrantel Pamoate) tablet a month for a period determined by your vet.
The tablet needs to be swallowed whole without being chewed. Many dog owners wrap the tablet in food and place it at the back of the dog`s mouth to encourage swallowing. If needed, your vet can provide you with further advice for administering the tablets.
Strongheart (Ivermectin/Pyrantel Pamoate) is normally well tolerated, however it is recommended you keep a close watch for signs of side effects for at least 48 hours after dosing. This is especially important when your dog is given this medication for the first time.
If you spot any signs of side effects consult your vet as soon as possible for further advice. Side effects that have been reported include rashes, increased heart rate, lightheadedness, and nausea.
