Risdone-Plus

Risdone-Plus (Risperidone/Trihexyphenidyl HCL) contains an atypical antipsychotic (risperidone) as one of its active components. This ingredient works by preventing dopamine overactivity in the brain and acting on neurotransmitters (such as serotonin and dopamine), which can help to treat the emotional and mental problems caused by schizophrenia, as well as aggression, hallucinations and social problems associated with this condition. It has also been used for manic episodes in adults affected by bipolar disorder.

In addition to the antipsychotic ingredient, Trihexphenidyl is contained in these tablets. This ingredient belongs to a group of drugs known as anticholinergics and it acts in the brain by inhibiting acetylcholine. As a result of this, muscle spasms caused by antipsychotic medicines may be stopped as well as EPS (extrapyramidial signs, rigid and stiff muscles occurring as a side effect of antipsychotic drugs). It has also been used on its own for its antiparkinsonian properties, to treat symptoms of Parkinson`s disease. This combination of ingredients may relieve symptoms of psychiatric conditions while also reducing extrapyramidial signs and muscles spasms.

Risdone-Plus (Risperidone/Trihexyphenidyl HCL) is usually only recommended in special circumstances. Prior to the commencement of treatment, your physician may need to conduct a medical examination or assessment, to determine whether or not it is suitable for you. Patients who are being treated with this medicine will be provided with a dosage and administration schedule tailored to their individual needs. Please be aware that the correct dosage often differs for each patient, and everyone must strictly comply with the directions provided by their physician. Do not exceed the recommended daily dosage under any circumstances.

• Dry mouth
• Weight gain
• Dizzy sensation
• Skin discoloration
• Production of breastmilk

Promptly inform your physician of any side effects that occur during treatment. Consult your physician straight away if you notice uncontrolled bodily movements, muscular stiffness, painful eyes, hallucinations, flu symptoms or any other symptoms that indicate you may be suffering from a severe reaction.

The anticholinergic ingredient in this medicine is not suitable for the treatment of tardive dyskinesia, and it may even worsen symptoms of this condition.

As weight gain may occur as a result of taking this drug, patients may be instructed by their physician to exercise regularly and follow special dietary instructions.
