Proluton

Proluton Depot (Hydroxyprogesterone) is a synthetic hormone similar to the natural female sex hormone progesterone. It is used in the prevention of spontaneous abortion in women with a history of recurrent miscarriage (habitual abortion). Spontaneous abortion occurs when the body`s levels of progesterone drop below the required level to maintain pregnancy. Therefore this medicine is used to maintain these levels and prevent miscarriage.

The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the patient and the condition being treated. Do not adjust your dosage without the approval of your health care provider. This product is only for use as prescribed and instructed.

Proluton Depot (Hydroxyprogesterone) should be administered by a doctor or nurse through an injection in your local hospital or health clinic. Your health care provider will normally inject you intramuscularly in the first few months every week to prevent abortion, if using this medication for infertility then you may be injected for 3 days once a rise in body temperature is established to help the endometrium get ready to ovulate.

Proluton Depot (Hydroxyprogesterone) medicines and their possible side effects can affect individual people in different ways. The following are some of the side effects that are known to be associated with this medicine. Because a side effect is stated here, it does not mean that all people using this medicine will experience that or any side effect.

• Difficulty in breathing (dyspnoea)
• Cough
• Pain and irritation at the injection site

Proluton Depot (Hydroxyprogesterone) may not suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.

Do not use this medicine if you have genital herpes, a liver tumor or any kind of viral infection. If you suffer from diabetes you will need special close monitoring to ensure the treatment does not cause stomach or liver bleeding.
