Nelvir (Nelfinavir Mesilate) works by inhibiting the protease of the HIV virus. This in turn helps prevent the production of infectious viral cells. The HIV-1 virus is dependent on enzymes known as proteases in order for its reproductive cycle to function properly. As this medicine blocks the viral protease, it affects certain polyproteins, and this causes the virus to reproduce immature viral copies which are not able to further infect the body.
Nelvir (Nelfinavir Mesilate) is provided as 250mg strength tablets which are administered orally. In general, patients will be given other anti-HIV medicines or antiretroviral drugs, and your physician will provide you with directions related to the required dosage for this medicine and any other ones that are being taken. Your physician may direct you to take the tablets alongside food. Never exceed the dosage recommended by your physician.
Treatment with the protease inhibitor Nelvir (Nelfinavir Mesilate) might cause side effects. Inform your physician if this happens. Examples include:
Serious adverse events that will require immediate medical attention are less common. Go to the hospital or see your physician immediately if you notice symptoms of an infection, tremors, severe anxiety, speech difficulty, problems walking properly and other severe side effects that have not been referenced here.
Nelvir (Nelfinavir Mesilate) is not a cure for HIV infections and it will also not stop you from giving the virus to others.
Regular medical checkups and tests will be ordered by your physician so that your condition can be properly monitored.
