Mydriacyl Eye Drops (Tropicamide) are used by physicians to widen the pupil of the eye so that it does not contract when an examination light is being used on the eye. It does this by helping the muscles in the eye to relax, thereby helping the pupil to dilate. This medication is useful for eye examinations as well as other diagnostic procedures.
Mydriacyl Eye Drops (Tropicamide) are most commonly used at a physician`s office or in the presence of a physician while the patient is undergoing a medical procedure. Should it be prescribed to you for home use, first tilt your head back and look up. Then, you may pull down the lower eyelid and make a pouch. The dropper may then be held directly over the eye, and one drop placed in the pouch. The patient should then look downward and close the eye for 1 minute.
The patient may place a finger in the corner of the eye, and apply gentle pressure, in order to prevent the medication from dripping out. Patients should not use these eye drops at home unless directed to do so by a physician, and should never use them more than recommended by their physician.
Some side effects have been reported by patients taking Mydriacyl Eye Drops (Tropicamide), such as:
If any of these effects persist or worsen, you should consult your physician immediately. Patients who notice swelling around the eye, hallucinations, uneven heart beat, or muscle stiffness should consult their physician immediately.
Mydriacyl Eye Drops (Tropicamide) may make your eyes more sensitive to light, so patients are advised to protect their eyes from sunlight while outdoors by wearing sunglasses.
