Mofilet-S (Mycophenolic Acid)is prescribed in conjunction with other drugs to prevent your body from rejecting an organ (e.g., kidney, heart) transplant. It is an immunosuppressant and works by lowering your immune system to stop it from attacking the transplanted organ.
How much Mofilet-S (Mycophenolic Acid) you take and how often will depend on the strength of the medicine and your condition. Take strictly as directed by your physician, on an empty stomach at least I hour before or 2 hours after meals. Swallow the tablet whole. It is important that you do not crush, break, or chew the outer coating of the tablet as it has a special coating for slow release to protect your stomach.
Do not alter your dose or suddenly stop taking it without consulting your physician, even if you are feeling better. If you do, your symptoms may get worse and increase the onset of unwanted side effects. If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the one you missed.
As with all medication, Mofilet-S (Mycophenolic Acid) has the potential to cause side effects in some patients. Common side effects include diarrhea, constipation, vomiting, muscle or joint pain, a runny nose, nausea, stomach or back pain, trouble sleeping, unexplained weight gain, and anxiety. If these symptoms worsen or persist, contact your physician.
Less common side effects include flu-like symptoms, unusual bleeding or bruising, difficulty breathing, pale skin, bloody or tarry stools, unusual weakness, coughing up blood, a fast heartbeat, mouth sores, difficulty or pain while urinating, chest pain, and dizziness. If you experience any of these symptoms and they worry you, contact your physician immediately or seek emergency medical attention.
Before taking Mofilet-S (Mycophenolic Acid), tell your physician if you have a stomach ulcer, a bacterial, viral, or fungal infection, any stomach disorders, or kidney disease.
