Captopril

Captopril (Captopril) is used for the treatment of hypertension or preventing strokes or heart attacks. It is an ACE inhibitor which allows blood vessels to widen, increasing blood flow, and thereby reducing blood pressure. In the event of a heart attack, it may sometimes be given to aid survival after the attack.

Captopril (Captopril) should be taken only as prescribed by your physician. It should usually be taken orally on an empty stomach (at least one hour before meals) daily. If you miss a dose, you do not increase your next dosage to compensate. As age, health, and other medication may affect your dosage, please consult your physician before taking it.

Patients taking Captopril (Captopril) may experience side effects such as stomach discomfort or diarrhea, cough, headache, taste alteration, disturbance of sleep, dry mouth, and itchy skin. If more serious side effects occur such as fainting, swelling, unusual bleeding, flu-like symptoms such as fever or chills, or uneven heart beats, consult your physician immediately.

Captopril (Captopril) should not be taken if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
