Butacort

Butacort (Budesonide) is a non-halogenated corticosteroid which is used to treat perennial allergic rhinitis, seasonal allergic rhinitis and vasomotor rhinitis. It can also help to prevent symptoms associated with these conditions. In some cases, it may be prescribed to provide relief of nasal polyposis. The active ingredient in this medicine helps to relieve sneezing, nasal congestion and other allergy symptoms by preventing the body from releasing certain substances that can cause swelling and allergy symptoms.

Patients will be provided with instructions on how to properly administer Butacort (Budesonide). In most cases, the full positive effects of treatment may not be noticed until 2 to 3 days after the commencement of treatment, however, in rare cases, it may take up to 2 weeks before a response to treatment is noticed. Physicians generally do not recommend long term use of this nasal spray. If it is being used for a prolonged period of time, a medical examination of the nasal mucosa will need to be carried out on a regular basis.

Side effects of Butacort (Budesonide) include:

• Coughing
• Dry throat
• Appetite loss
• Dizzy sensation
• Irritation affecting the nose

Serious side effects will require immediate medical attention, such as acne which is severe in nature, white sores affecting the mouth or nasal area, severe nose bleeds or any other reactions which have not been listed here.

If hay fever symptoms show no signs of improvement after 7 days of treatment, patients should consult their physician.

This medication should not be used by patients who have recently had an infection of the sinus, nose bleeds or nasal surgery.
