Allopurinol (Allopurinol)

Allopurinol-Apotex (Allopurinol) is indicated for the treatment of gout and kidney stones. Its mechanism of action is reducing the levels of uric acid. This medicine is classified as a xanthine oxidase inhibitor, and it can prevent hypoxanthine from being converted to xanthine, while also preventing the production of uric acid from xanthine. This helps to bring about sufficient control in uric acid levels, which is important, as excess acid is responsible for causing gout or kidney stones.

Allopurinol-Apotex (Allopurinol) is available as either 100mg or 300mg strength tablets for oral administration. Your physician will require a full medical examination so that your symptoms can be properly assessed and the correct dosage calculated. Adult patients affected by gout are sometimes directed to commence treatment with a starting dose of 100mg per day. The physician in charge of treatment may increase this to a dosage ranging from 200mg to 300mg in cases of mild gout. However, if the symptoms are severe, the maintenance dosage may range from 400mg to 600mg per day.

Taking Allopurinol-Apotex (Allopurinol) might suffer from side effects. Tell your physician if this occurs. Possible examples can include:
